Exploring our mission.

Mission and vision driven.
Throughout the spring of 2018, MURSD collaboratively developed a five-year strategic plan that charted the future of learning for our district. Two of the most important aspects of that plan are the mission and vision.
The mission statement is the fundamental description of what the district does, whom it serves, and its core reason for being. It should be the foundation of all meaningful decision-making and goal setting...it communicates succinctly and quickly. It is clear and unambiguous and can be implemented by all who work for the district. The mission of the Mendon-Upton Regional School District is: We empower all learners to thrive. The vision of a district is a picture of what is attainable in the future. It articulates the actions that the district will undertake in order to bring the mission to life. |

What does it mean to thrive?
One of the ongoing conversations of our district throughout the year is about what it means to thrive. In order to make progress toward this shared goal, we need to have a common definition of our mission. Take a moment to answer the prompt below and share your definition of thrive.
Connection to our goals.
Through the year, we've had conversations about the strategic plan with each department. In our last common planning time sessions, departments created drafts of goals that align with our guiding documents. In today's meeting we'll focus on school-wide goals, brainstorming focal points for 2019-2020 that align with our mission and vision.
Working with a partner or a small group, make your way around the room to each of the posted vision statements. On the left side of the chart paper, list things Nipmuc already has in place that address this aspect of our vision. On the right side of the chart paper, list ideas that we should pursue next year or in the coming years.

Prioritizing our vision.
All around the rooms are great ideas about how our school can move forward in the coming year. While it would be great to put all of these ideas into action, we need to be intentional and strategic about what is practical and impactful for our school.
In order to help us prioritize our vision steps, work together with your group to put the district's action steps into an order of priority. (first priority on the top of your list) |
