Technology Norms. |
Educational technologies continue to be integrated and embedded into school districts, changing how teachers and students work and learn... However, much remains to be learned about classroom technology and use."

Talking Tech
It's easy to see the impact that technology has on our daily lives. Through our phones, iPads, and countless other devices - we have increased access to information, connectivity to a global audience, and tools that can support our productivity. With that said, we also recognize potential impacts of technology on human behavior including distractibility, compulsive use, changing social dynamics and more.
In today's Lead Learner Workshop, we will take some steps to define the impacts of and outcomes of technology in our world as learners. We will then tap into some of the research on technology. As an outcome of today's workshop, we'll look to establish the areas we would like to focus on in our school community in order to take advantage of the benefits of technology while limiting the potentially negative impact on our learners and their learning.

Take a Stand Protocol
Let's take some time to explore our opinions about technology use, distraction, responsibility. As we share each of the following opinion statements, move to a side of the room indicating if you "agree" or "disagree".
Be sure to track whether you agree or disagree in the appropriate location on the provided sheet so that we can keep track of the data for each opinion statement. After each round we will take a moment to discuss the opinions of group. |

KWL: KNOW, WONDER, LEARN
In this next activity, we will work collaboratively in small groups to capture our learning and curiosities from the workshop. You will frame your work within 3 categories:
The plan is to seek additional knowledge and perspectives between November and February to help make some decisions about technology norms at Nipmuc Regional.
- KNOW: include what you currently know about technology (either from personal experience or your research above)
- WONDER: include the things that you are curious about or want to learn more about with regards to technology use and its impact
- LEARN: include the ways that we can continue to learn more about our "WONDER"ings.
