Nipmuc's Portrait of a Graduate Scholars Program
What are the skills necessary for all learners to succeed in a rapidly changing, increasingly diverse, and interconnected world? The MURSD Portrait of a Graduate is our district's answer to that question. Created through the process to create Inspire - MURSD's 2018-2023 strategic plan - the portrait of a graduate defines the skills, knowledge, and dispositions all students need to succeed in the world beyond our classrooms.
The Portrait of a Graduate Scholars Program is a way to share this information with our community by celebrating our students' curiosities, interests, growth, and learning. |
In today's workshop we will work together to build digital profiles of each of our scholars. The profiles will tell our students' stories and help us share the power and potential of the Portrait of a Graduate on our district. Through this process, our scholars will create a digital profile that will:
- tell the story of their curiosities, interests, growth, and learning;
- provide a personal understanding of the portrait of a graduate;
- be shared with the community to build understanding and excitement about the future of learning in MURSD;
- help our school and community explore the portrait of a graduate.
Understanding the MURSD Portrait of a Graduate
The MURSD Portrait of a Graduate describes the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed for success in the world beyond our classrooms. It is comprised of six components including:
- A Global Citizen
- A Mindful Learner
- A Skillful Collaborator
- An Effective Communicator
- An Inspired Innovator
- A Solution Seeker
What motivates you as a learner?
We often talk about learning styles in education but less often, we talk about personality styles. Personality helps us to understand how we as learners respond to the world around us. Combined with our learning styles and personal interests, this information tells a powerful and unique story about who we are as learners and how we interact with the world around us.
Take a few minutes to answer the questions on the Personality Spectrum Assessment (hard copy will be provided for you). You will then graph these answers on the brain diagram. Using the diagram and the resources provided, spend a few minutes reading through the information about your most dominant and least dominant personality traits. Does this information resonate with you? How does this information help to define you as a unique individual? What are the strengths that you have to share with others?

Writing your professional bio
A professional bio is your introduction to others in a digital space however writing about yourself and your accomplishments is never an easy task. It could be one of the most important skills in marketing your skills. Your professional bio is often the first impression that people have about you. Sometime in the near future (if you haven't needed one already!), you will need a bio to quickly communicate who you are on personal blogs, social media, LinkedIn, or even on your employer’s website. Your bio should communicate your uniqueness, interests, as well as potential career pathways or fields of study. Additionally, we plan to include as part of your PoG profile, a personally meaningful (brief) quote.
Telling your story.
As a Nipmuc Portrait of a Graduate Scholar, you will help our community to understand this concept by telling your story and showing how you've explored the competencies included in the portrait of a graduate. Your story will bring this concept to life for students, educators, parents, and community members!
Using the provided questions/prompts, you will tell a story about yourself as a learner, connect that story to the portrait of a graduate, and show us the awesome potential of our students! Click on the button below to access a model response. Check Google Classroom for a template that you can use to write your own response. |
Numbers That Tell Your Story
As part of your PoG profile, we plan to include a few numbers that help to tell your story in a visual way. Think about numbers that would help to tell your story in a way that is fun, unique, and inspiring to your readers. What haven't you shared yet that could be shared through numbers?
I will...
As Portrait of a Graduate Scholars, you will not only help our community to understand the skills, knowledge, and talents of our current students but also help them imagine the amazing things you'll accomplish in the future. In order to give our audience a glimpse of the future, we're putting together a video that will share your aspirations for the future.
Using the provided paper, complete the prompt, "I will...". As you answer, think about what your hopes and dreams are for the future. Don't be afraid to be bold in stating what you will one day accomplish, pursue, or achieve!
We will film you holding your sign and put together a video of our Portrait of a Graduate Scholars and their dreams for the future!
