Nipmuc Community Advisory BoardThe Nipmuc Community Advisory Board is a group of students, parents, community members, and educators who work together to shape educational programming and the future of learning at our school. This year Nipmuc's advisory board is comprised of parents of children in grades Pre-K through 11th grade, providing a wealth of perspectives and ideas that can help our school grow. During our initial meeting, we delved into the journey that Nipmuc has been on in recent years before working together to support our goals for the 2018-19 school year.

Fall Meeting: Exploring the Portrait
|
- Exploring the skills needed to achieve the six aspects of the portrait of the graduate which include being an inspired innovator, a solution seeker, a mindful learner, an effective communicator, a global citizen, and a skillful collaborator
- Brainstorming a list of experiences that students should have in order to practice and achieve the portrait of a graduate.
- Identifying potential Community Partnership Projects to help students explore the portrait of the graduate in a real-world context.
What's a Community Partnership Project?A key part of bringing the portrait of the graduate to life is expanding learning opportunities that have meaning, relevance, and impact in the world beyond our classrooms. Community Partnership Projects provide the chance for students to achieve the competencies in the portrait of the graduate while giving them real world learning experiences.
Community Partnership Projects are defined by several characteristics including:
In recent years, Nipmuc has expanded these types of learning experiences for our students (see the Cumberland Farms SmartPay app project to the right). Our goal for the year is to establish a bank of Community Partnership Projects that can be shared with teachers as practical, tangible ways to provide real-world learning experiences that inspire. |
Progress of the Meeting
Working in small groups, our community advisory board explored the skills, experiences, and community partnerships that can support the implementation of the portrait of the graduate. Check out the document below to see the ideas that we captured during brainstorming.
What's next?
In our fall meeting, the community advisory board brainstormed a variety of ways that we can support the portrait of the graduate by creating community partnership projects that promote real work that matters in the real world. Based on the ideas in the document above, Nipmuc's educators will collaborate to develop these ideas, purse partnerships, and create a bank of projects that can help us take the next steps in our journey toward modern learning. By March 2019, Nipmuc will develop these ideas into a bank of community partnership projects, giving teachers practical options for interdisciplinary, real-world learning experiences.
Resources
During our community advisory board meeting, we referenced a variety of resources to help our board members to get connected to the work that's taking place each day at Nipmuc. Explore the links below to learn more about the journey of our school.
The Nipmuc Roadmap
For the past two years, Nipmuc has shared its journey to reimagine school through a digital timeline called The Nipmuc Roadmap. This timeline captures some of the key action steps we are taking as a school community on our journey toward modern learning. Check out the timeline and click on the links provided to learn more about our work. |
Nipmuc Lead Learners
During the 2017-18 school year, Nipmuc reimagined its leadership team meetings in order to promote leadership across all faculty members and students. Nipmuc's Lead Learner meetings are monthly workshops that function as the school's most important leadership meetings. They provide opportunities for all teachers and all students to add their voice to the conversation about the future of Nipmuc. Check out agendas, activities, and progress on this website or by clicking here. |
21st Century Learning Conferences
Nipmuc's 21st Century Learning Conferences are day-long learning events that answer the question, "What would we do if we could throw away our schedule for the day?" These full-day learning events are modeled after professional conferences but are offered for students. They provide opportunities for students to pursue their passions, learn about topics beyond the traditional curriculum, teach their peers and teachers about the passions that drive them, and connect with a network of community partners.
